A Natural Approach to Horse Agility Camp  2023 MAY Friday 17th to Sunday 19th

An action packed few days of Horse Agility taught from a Natural Perspective.

With Arrival from 2pm those wishing to hack, set up field pens and camping. Otherwise arrival from 4pm. That evening we will have a hot 2 course meal together and I will talk to you all about Horse Agility and Natural Horsemanship, what you can expect over the next 2 days and answer any questions you might have, we will then go on to learning how to build a course of obstacles!

Over the course of the weekend you will learn about Horse Agility Obstacles and Courses which we will use as well as some Natural Horsemanship Techniques to help you. The days will contain Training and Play sessions with the horses in the indoor and outdoor arenas. The chance to explore the off road hacking route (approx. 1.5 miles) in hand or ridden.

The training sessions will include: Natural Horsemanship Techniques and approaches to obstacles. A selection of fun tasks and mini competition using a points system to go towards rosettes and prizes, including the very popular Horse Agility Knockout Challenge. There will be the opportunity to do a ridden Horse Agility Session for those who would like to.

Horse Agility Camp is suitable for all horse human combinations from novices and youngsters to Juniors and the more Advanced and Experienced amongst you. Camp really is for everyone.

Horse Agility Camp gives you the chance to focus on your horse and spend quality time with them in a relaxed environment allowing you to build on your relationship.

Thompson House has superb facilities for both you and your horse.  Horses are housed in a selection of Stables on site or use of the grazing field.  There is a big parking area for boxes and trailers and an area for pitching tents and camping.  We have a dedicated meeting area in the spectating part of the indoor school for meals, social and daily teaching.

There is a Premier Inn located approx. 5 minutes drive away for those who don’t wish to stay on site. There is also a café on site if you want to supplement any meals. Hot drink facilities will be provided.

Brief outline of event (subject to changes)

  • Sunday finishes with a presentation of Rosettes and awards, ready for a 4pm finish to allow you to leave by 6pm
  • A buddy system will be in place and you will be allocated your camp buddy/buddies based on where your horses are located and who you are friends with. This keeps horses and humans safe making sure no horses get left on their own. You will move through activities and locations over the weekend in groups
  • Championship Rosette for best individual over the weekend. There will be a selection of Rosettes and prizes , you will accumulate points throughout the sessions in fun activities.
  • I strongly suggest you use a rope minimum length 10ft for all activities. Lunge Lines are fine. A bridle can be used if required for safety. Natural Horsemanship ropes and halters will be available to purchase.
  • All horses need to be up to date with Equine Flu vaccinations 12 Months and bring passports with you! Passports must be sent via email at least 1 month before camp for proof of vaccinations

Facilities included for your horse

Stables – Fully Booked

  • A selection of stables will be provided and allocation will be based on most suitable for your horse. You need to bring your own Hay, Shavings, Water Bucket and Feed
  • Hay and Bedding can be pre-ordered
  • Small Bale Hay £6
  • Shavings £10
  • These will also be available to purchase if you run out during camp
  • You can hand graze in a designated part of the turnout field, your horse must be upto date with worming
  • Stable will be closed to access from 9.30pm – 8am for security reasons, We will do a night check at 9pm.

Coral Option

  • You must bring your own electric fencing With ELECTRIC UNIT to make a pen in the field. No electric fencing may be used which doesn’t have power to it for safety reasons.
  • You need to bring your own hay, hay net and water bucket.
  • Your horse must be upto date with worming
  • The corals are built in a lovely field and every coral will have a field side fence or 2. You can make you coral a good size.
  • The horsebox and trailer parking is next to the field so those staying overnight will be keeping an eye on the horses.
  • There is a good gate on the field which will be kept shut at all times.

I DO NOT supply

  • Hard feed
  • Water buckets, feed bowls
  • Hay
  • Shavings
  • Mucking out equipment inc wheelbarrows (for bio security reasons) you must bring your own

***There may be limited wheelbarrows available over the weekend but this is not guaranteed.

  • A Camping Area for Tents
  • Parking Area for Boxes and Lorries (no electric available) Next to the grazing field
  • All meals will be provided
  • Tea, Coffee and hot and cold water will be available all day – You must bring a cup or flask these will not be provided. All other drinks consumed in the arenas and spectating and meeting areas must be brought from the café.
  • For the evening meals we will be in the Café, warm cosy and comfy. However we cannot take drinks in and they must be brought from the café. They have a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Table water will be available.
  • Regarding Alcohol please note if you are noisy or disorderly this will result in you being asked to leave. This is a relaxed fun, family friendly camp.
  • Meeting area for social, training, spectating and Dining.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

What if you have 1 horse and 2 handlers? This is absolutely fine and happens on many occasions. In this instance you would need to pay for one full camp person with horse and then an additional person place.

If you have another half, friend or family member who would like to come horseless for the weekend they are more than welcome.  They need to book a spectator place

If you would like someone to help or spectate for only part of the camp please contact me for a custom rate.  I can not accommodate spectators who turn up on the day, they must be pre-booked one month from the event at the latest.
